[edit] 1 Mission statement for the Metadata Scheme Comparison Group
There is a variety of standards and metadata schemes around to describe various forms of educational resources. However, there is none that reflects the characteristics of lecture recordings and academic video. ETH Zurich has therefore put forward a scheme based on Dublin Core to adequately reflect the characteristics of academic video. This scheme has been adopted by the Opencast Matterhorn project to serve as a metadata framework. In order to integrate academic video with other educational resources and to safeguard interoperability with existing metadata schemes used in the context of video, the MSC group will
- compare various existing metadata schemes with the Opencast scheme,
- match items over these,
- and thus discuss the various issues involved (vocabulary, definitions etc.)
The goal is to further develop the Opencast Matterhorn metadata scheme and to make it compatible with existing schemes.
