[edit] 1 Description of abstract element: Subject
This term is intended to be used with non-literal values as defined in the DCMI Abstract Model (http://dublincore.org/documents/abstract-model/). As of December 2007, the DCMI Usage Board is seeking a way to express this intention with a formal range declaration. Typically, the subject will be represented using keywords, key phrases, or classification codes. Recommended best practice is to use a controlled vocabulary. To describe the spatial or temporal topic of the resource, use the Coverage element.
2 Discussion of subject [add to discussion, edit discussion]
[edit] 2.1 Matterhorn scheme
The classification stems from a Swiss academic catalogue (http://collection.switch.ch/spec/2008/disciplines/) and is probably not suitable in an international context. The discussion therefore will be around finding a scheme to serve local as well as national needs.
