[edit] 1 iTunes U related questions
Question: Within the iTunes U CMS, does anyone know a way of graphically representing the Latest or 'Featured' podcasts without duplicating data that can also be found elsewhere in a Category?

[edit] 2.1 I've got some media for iTunes U, how do I reuse it for my website?
This is a question in the context of the European-style iTunes U, where media present (e.g. in the Cambridge iTunes U site) is hosted on institutional servers (i.e. at Cambridge). Such media (audio and video) can then be re-used on your own website.
Individual media items can be re-used by simply embedding a player into the website, pointing to the stream. If your media is encoded as 'flash 9 compatible' mp4 files (which essentially means mp4 with H.264/ACC codecs and "fast start"), you can use flash player (such as jw media player) to embed the media. If your media is hosted on a server supporting "progressive download with seeking" (such as Apache with mod h264), viewers can also seek within the file.
Rather than just using a single media item, it's also possible to re-use media programatically. In European-style iTunes U, institutions communicate with their iTunes U site via RSS feeds, and the same (or similar) feeds can be used to build an institutional portal, mirroring the media present on the institutional iTunes site. It is one of the deliverables of the Steeple project, to develop such an institutional portal (see Portal), but there are also other solutions available (see Syndication/systems).
[edit] 2.2 I've got some media on YouTube, how do I reuse it for my website?
Similar to the previous question, it's possible to re-use media posted to YouTube. Again, this is two-fold: (1) Individual items can be embedded, or (2) metadata feeds from an institutional YouTube site can be used to embed media into your site programatically.

[edit] 4.1 ... PPP ?
The Podcasting for Pedagogic Purposes Special Interest Group (PPP) was established following some funding from the HEA. As its title suggests, it is developing expertise as a community around how podcasting can be used to enhance learning, teaching and assessment in further and higher education. The SIG appreciates that knowledge in this area is emerging and therefore takes a creative and open communal approach to developing it. The SIG takes a broad view of the word 'podcasting', appreciating what can now be done with the asynchronous voice in education beyond the specific technical constraints suggested by strict definitions of podcasting. However, the notion of user subscription remains an important area within this broader view, with other interests being audio feedback, digital storytelling, and other creative applications of digital media. The work of PPPSIG therefore complements Steeple's focus with some useful overlap around staff development and dissemination. The PPP wiki is at: Podcasting for Pedagogic Purposes[edit] 4.2 ...
